“My mom”s been thru it all….cancer survivor, evictions, head-on collision by a drunk driver,” confessed Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
‘The Rock’ was raised primarily by his mother, Ata Johnson. He knew his father, but the man was hardly involved in his son”s upbringing. The future Hollywood star grew up in poverty and shared that his mother struggled to put food on the table when he was growing up. “At 14, I saw my mom crying about our only car being repossessed,” Johnson recalled. They were kicked out of their apartment because they could not afford the $180 rent per week.
One day, however, the strongest woman in his life nearly gave up. His mother attempted to take her life when he was 15. His mother “got out of the car on Interstate 65 in Nashville and walked into oncoming traffic.” He shared that he managed to pull her onto the side of the road.
